A good friend asked me last nite, what's the number one rule of Outsourcing? My response has been to refer to the Prime Directive of Outsourcing.

Pick the right supplier! It's that simple....now it's easier said than done. Companies set arbitrary deadlines when projects must be outsourced by some magical date. No thought is given to developing your strategy...no analysis is done on understanding the true costs. Many mistakes are made as they rush headlong into Outsourcing H*&*...as a result, they will most certainly pick the WRONG supplier.

If you / your company needs to (or wants to) outsource...my first suggestion is to SLOW DOWN. Take your time and do everything possible to select the Right Supplier.

That's the Prime Directive of Outsourcing.
